Modeling of the interaction between epidemic spreading and social dynamics

Description of the research project:

The COVID-19 pandemic has shown the necessity of the development of models capable of accurately describing the spreading of diseases within the society. Not only the epidemic parameters are important: other previously ignored factors, such as mobility, age distribution, lockdowns, closing of certain types of activities and commerce, and all kinds of non-pharmaceutical interventions, have to be taken into account. The objective of this project is the building of models that describe mathematically the interactions between all these factors: social behavior and epidemic spreading, using tools taken from statistical physics and computational techniques.

Highly desirable attributes of the ideal candidate

* Demonstrated previous experience in one or more of the following topics: Complex systems
* Hold a Master degree, or equivalent, in: Physics
* Language skills: English
